What is IELTS?

IELTS stands for International English Language Testing System. It is an English language assessment test to measure the ability of people who wish to study or work in an environment where English is the language of communication. There are two versions of the test: Academic and General Training. Those who desire university entrance take the Academic version and those who are looking to immigrate to an English-speaking country typically sit the General Training module. Results are expressed as an easy-to-understand Band Score.

How good is IELTS?

IELTS is the premier English language testing system in the world today and is now accepted in over 200 countries. No other English testing system compares with IELTS for thoroughness. In 2003 over 475,000 people sat for the test.

Who is behind IELTS?

IELTS is owned, developed and delivered through the partnership of the British Council, IDP Education Australia: IELTS Australia and the University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations

Where is IELTS accepted?

IELTS is accepted as proof of English ability by a majority of higher learning institutions in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa and the UK and a large number of universities and colleges in the USA. It is also used by a number of professional bodies and governments world-wide.

Why should I sit for IELTS?

Success in the IELTS® test can open up significant opportunities for study at a university of choice, immigration to another country or for those looking to further career prospects in an English speaking environment.
